This was fun, Olivia. "What sort of sexual fantasy involves a podium?" indeed. Our collective writerly podium fetish made manifest.

Thank you!! I especially like to say the word podium with a Delco accent (see: Mare of Easttown).

Circe. La Binoche. And these footnotes! Or maybe it is just that I am trying to read KOK’s latest as my first foray and it is a bit MUCH? You are killing me PT Lady.

Thank you so much for reading, also the footnotes—couldn’t help myself! I haven’t read the new stuff yet but KOK is always a lot, and if the internet is accurate, has cut his hair.

“Luckily” they attacked your Shakespeare first? I would have fed the silverfish Joyce over Will any day! Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Ha! Thank you so much for reading!! To clear up the question of luck, it was not a matter of preference so much as the cost/quality of the editions -- my Shakespeares were all cheap secondhand paperbacks, which i keep more out of nostalgia (and old annotations) than for the quality of the printing. I suspect my Ulysses was also secondhand, but it's still a nicer physical book to hold and read, and I'd have been beyond heartbroken if it had been chewed up!

Pleasure! Ah, that makes sense. I know exactly what you mean about certain editions occupying special positions. I have a BIG volume of Shakespeare's complete works I purchased as a student - it's the first thing I'd grab in a fire. As for Knausgaard, I have yet to read him, but may need to bump him up my list now.

I haven’t read Knausgaard (who I’d assumed would be too alpha-male for my tastes) or Cameron Winter and now I’m thinking I should. I enjoyed the way you’ve connected them with Ulysses (which I have read).

Also: had no idea that using Post Its as bookmarks could attract silverfish and now I’m fretting about my diaries and ancient books that are littered with them. Purge incoming. Thanks so much for the tip-off!

Wendy, I'd be very curious to hear what you think about Knausgaard - he certainly spends enough time thinking about himself, alpha or not, but I think he's worth reading. A more sure bet is Winter, based on the concerts/bands you've written about.

I wish I'd taken pictures of the bites the fish took out of my post-its!! Better those eaten than the pages themselves, especially of your diaries - best of luck with the purge!!
